Meet the Founder
Welcome to my world of transformative education, cultural insight, and unapologetic truth-telling. I’m Ms. Melanie Berru, a proud Chicana born and raised in California’s Central Valley, where the soil is as rich as the stories that shape us. As a sociology professor, award-winning educator, and speaker, my mission is clear: to make the invisible visible, empower communities, and create pathways for transformative change.
With over two decades of experience teaching diverse student populations—including incarcerated students and those from historically marginalized communities—I know that
education is more than textbooks and theories. It’s a calling, a catalyst for self-love, collective action, and justice. Whether I’m presenting at conferences, leading workshops, or designing
innovative curricula, my approach is grounded in love for self, others, and the community.
Through Coyol Rising, my company, I bring a unique sociological lens to organizations, professionals, and students, offering keynotes, trainings, and consultations that challenge assumptions, spark awareness, and drive action. My work is rooted in truth and courage, inviting individuals and institutions to step into honesty, equity, and empowerment.
Whether you’re a professional seeking cultural insight, an educator navigating the complexities of socialization, or a leader ready to foster meaningful change, I’m here to walk alongside you.
Together, we’ll honor the past, navigate the present, and shape a future defined by equity, understanding, and love.
Let’s make a difference—together.

Professor Berru’s impact is not limited to the people she teaches. It extends to every person who will one day interact with those individuals; their families, their workplaces, their communities. When intentional education is truly accessible for all, everyone benefits.
And that is why her work matters to all of us.
